The University of Lausanne is offering Masters scholarships for international students students who have graduated from a foreign university with excellent academic results, who are undertaking eligible Masters degree programmes at the University commencing AY 2020-2021. All Masters programmes are eligible for the scholarship grants, except for the following:

  • Master from the School of Medicine
  • Master of Education
  • Master of Law from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne
  • Master of Criminal Law, Magistracy specialisation
  • Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics
  • Master of Science in Health sciences
  • All MASs (PhD programmes)

With respect to the Master of Law, only 2 specialisations – that in “International and Comparative Law” and “Legal Theory” – are eligible for these Masters scholarships.

The grant may not be used for any complementary studies required to enroll on the Masters degree (upgrade year) and may not be used for Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA).


The scholarship grant is CHF 1,600 per month for a period of 10 months per academic year (from 15 September to 15 July), ie. 10 months a year, for the duration of the Masters degree only (which may be one-and-a-half years or 2 years, depending on the programme). Scholars will be exempted from fixed registration fees for courses, except for the semester fees of CHF 80.

This amount of CHF 1,600 will not cover all the required monthly expenses, as the estimated monthly budget required is CHF 2000. The grant does not cover travel expenses or any cost prior to the beginning of the Masters programme.


Applicants must be graduates of foreign universities and their degrees must be equivalent to the UNIL Bachelors degree. Applicants should have distinguished themselves in their studies, evidenced by brilliant academic results. They need to have a language level of at least a B2 (according to the European Language Portfolio global scale) in French and at least C1 in English, depending on the taught language of the Masters programme chosen. They also need to pay the CHF 200.00 administration fee. Students with a foreign university degree who have already begun a Masters programme at UNIL or who are in their preparatory year are not eligible.

Students who have already obtained a Masters level degree from a foreign university are also eligible, although priority will be given to students who only hold a Bachelors degree (or are about to obtain one) at the time of application.


Scholarship applications are to be sent by post and received by UNIL by 1 November 2019.
