Type of Funding
The annual Volvo Environment Prize is awarded for outstanding innovations or scientific discoveries, which fall broadly within the environmental field, and the Volvo Environment Prize Foundation is now nominations of individuals with outstanding achievement in the environmental and sustainability field, for the 2020 Volvo Environment Prize. The award ceremony will be held in Stockholm, Sweden in November 2020.
The Prize consists of a hand-crafted diploma, a glass sculpture and a cash award of SEK 1.5 million (approximately €140,000 or US$150,000).
Nominees are not restricted to environmental scientists and biologists as the span of disciplines and activities for which nominations can be made is wide and includes all disciplines which have relevance to the environment. The research of nominees should be based on scientific grounds but must clearly show impacts outside of the specific discipline.
The idea is to promote scientific research and innovations that in broad terms fall within the environmental and sustainability field. Previous laureates included economists, urban development experts, energy specialists, poverty adversaries and many others exploring sustainability.
Nominations should be accompanied by a detailed description of the research the nominee has conducted and how it adds to the knowledge of environmental science. Main achievements and their importance should be emphasized and emphasis must be placed on the impacts of the research outside of the particular discipline e.g. impact on policy development, impact on sustainability and/or contribution to changed behaviour. There should be a strong emphasis on scientific achievements.
Nominations can be made online, via email or by post, by 10 January 2020. Self-nominations are not accepted.
