International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) is inviting anyone above the age of 18 who wants to break away from the normal Spring, Summer or Winter Break to support communities abroad as volunteers on specific social issues such as education, environmental, health and community projects, to apply for the International Volunteer HQ Alternative Break Scholarship. Not only do alternative break volunteers get to give back to a community that values their support, they will also benefit from the experiences of a “traditional break” abroad, meet new people, immerse in a new culture, and the opportunity to explore.

Applicants can choose from 2 alternative break options: volunteering abroad or taking an internship. By volunteering abroad, they will be taking a break that genuinely has an impact and supports the long-term needs of a community abroad. By choosing to intern, they can focus on career readiness by taking a global internship with Intern Abroad HQ.

Interested individuals can apply to any of the following 4 options: 1) Alternative Spring Break 2019 2) Alternative Summer Break 2019 3) Alternative Winter Break 2019 and 4) Alternative Internship Break 2019.

A group of finalists will be shortlisted after applications close, and the winners will be chosen by pubic voting.

The Alternative Break Scholarship recipient must travel to their destination of choice before 30 February 2020.

The winner of the scholarship gets to participate in a 2-week volunteer or intern abroad program with International Volunteer HQ or Intern Abroad HQ in the destination of the recipient’s choice.

The scholarship covers:

  • Registration Fee and 2-week Program Fee for International Volunteer HQ or Intern Abroad HQ
  • Flight voucher (to the value of US$1000) from IVHQ Flights
  • Travel insurance up to the value of US$250 for the 2-week duration of the IVHQ Program
  • The ‘Certificate in International Volunteering’ online course from Global Travel Academy
  • Comprehensive pre-departure support services and training, as well as in-country program orientation, accommodation, meals and 24/7 support.

Applicants can be anyone of any nationality who is over the age of 18. They should be individuals or groups who wish to join forces with other travelers who are passionate about creating positive change through meaningful international experiences.

Those who know they want to volunteer or intern during their alternative break but who are not sure where to go yet, can still apply for the scholarship. The IVHQ or IAHQ teams will assist in selecting a destination that’s the best fit.

Applications are to be done online by 11 February 2019.
