The Sunflower Initiative is inviting young women who wish to undertake undergraduate studies in the United States in AY 2020-2021, to apply for the Harriet Fitzgerald Scholarship. One scholarship is available. The scholarship is for a highly motivated woman who is passionate about learning, to enable her to have her intellect and talents nurtured and to receive an education preparing her to participate fully in public life.


A scholarship award of US$10,000 will be given, for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal.


Applicants must possess a stellar high school record, have a sincere desire to make a contribution to society, and show evidence of strong character and leadership qualities, as well as breadth and depth of interests. It is best that applicants have a unweighted GPA of at least 3.7 and either a composite SAT score of at least 1900 or a composite ACT score of at least 27, with no single ACT score below 25.  They have to provide outstanding references. All women expecting to start their first full term of college at an undergraduate women’s college in the Fall 2020 term are eligible to apply.

Graduating high school seniors, women who have matriculated at college, but left prior to the completion of the first semester, those who have taken a gap year or two since graduating from high school, and women who have taken a college course or two early while completing high school, are eligible to apply. Women who have completed 1 semester of college or more are not eligible.


Applications are to be done online by 1 February 2020.
