Cardiff Metropolitan University is offering the Cardiff Met Sanctuary Award to asylum seekers and refugees for studies commencing September 2019. Two postgraduate and 2 undergraduate scholarships are available for entry in September 2019.

The scholarship aims to provide equal opportunities to higher education for people seeking sanctuary in the UK and to help them meet their full potential and ambitions.

Each scholarship provides for a full fee waiver for the undergraduate or postgraduate course the applicant holds an offer for; a Met Rider bus pass valid during AY 2019-2020; and a daily lunch voucher for use in Cardiff Met’s Students’ Union catering outlets on weekdays during term time. There will also be personal support to enable students to identify and overcome barriers to achievement on their degree programme.

Applicants must be asylum seekers in the UK or partners/dependants included on the application of an asylum seeker in the UK. They could also be individuals who have received a decision on their claim for asylum and have been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR), Limited Leave to Remain (LLR) or some other form of temporary status such as Humanitarian Protection. Spouses/civil partners must have been the spouse/civil partner on the date on which the asylum application was made. Children/step-children must have been aged under 18 on the date on which the asylum application was made.

Only those who have either a conditional or unconditional offer from Cardiff Metropolitan University for entry in September 2019 into a degree course are eligible. They should currently be attending a school, college, community or voluntary group, which can provide a reference in support of their scholarship application. They should also be living within suitable distance to easily commute to university and they should not be requiring financial support for accommodation and living expenses.

Those who have obtained an equivalent degree from another institution or country are ineligible.

Applications are to be done via email or by post by 5 July 2019.
