Breakthrough is inviting final-year undergraduates, recent college graduates and postgraduates from around the world to apply for the 2020 Breakthrough Generation Fellowship, which will run from mid-June to mid-August 2020. The fellowship aims to develop a new generation of thinkers and writers capable of finding pragmatic new solutions to today’s greatest challenges in the areas of energy, economy, and environment.
For the first 2 weeks of this paid 10-week fellowship in the summer, fellows will attend the Breakthrough Bootcamp, an intellectual crash course in Breakthrough’s history and research that involves intensive reading, writing, and an expert lecture series. Topics covered include modernization theory, social psychology, aspirational politics and philosophy, economics and innovation policy, and technology policy.
For the remainder of the fellowship, fellows will work in small groups divided amongst 3 program areas: Energy, Cities, or Food & Farming. They will be supervised by policy staff and fellows will produce policy white papers, reports and memos.
Fellows will also attend the Breakthrough Dialogue – an opportunity to interact with the leading thinkers, writers, and scholars in the study of society and the environment, as well as attend talks, debates and working groups within Breakthrough’s different program areas.
Fellows will be paid US$600 per week. Additional travel and housing assistance stipends are available upon acceptance based on an as-needed basis.
Final-year undergraduates, college graduates, and postgraduates, from anywhere in the world, are eligible to apply. Applicants have to indicate which of the 3 research areas they wish to be considered for: Energy, Cities, or Food & Farming.
Applications are to be done online by 11 February 2020.
