The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) is inviting young practitioners advocating for democracy or human rights in Asia, to apply for the 6th Asia Young Leaders for Democracy Program, to be held from 20 to 26 August 2019 at the TFD headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan. The theme for the 2019 Asia Young Leaders for Democracy Program is “Enhance the Resilience of Democracy”. Participants at this year’s program will work at innovating more inclusive approaches of public participation.
The Asia Young Leaders for Democracy program (AYLD) aims to strengthen democracy in Asia through young people’s collaborations. Participants will attend lectures, discussions, and site visits.
The TFD will cover economy class round-trip airfares to Taiwan, airport shuttle bus, accommodation, meals (partial), and visa costs for all participants during the program. Participants will also be given a small stipend in return for submission of a written report of the program.
Applicants should be practitioners who work actively to promote democracy and human rights in Asia. They could be policymakers, academicians, legal professionals, and leaders of civil society organizations, such as representatives of political parties,legislative assistants, nongovernmental organizations and the media.
Preference will be given to applicants between the ages of 18 to 35, with some working experience in the field of democracy and human rights promotion. They need to be proficient in English.
Academic credentials are not a requirement. However, it is crucial that participants have enough knowledge on democracy and human rights advocacy in order to participate in the program.
