Type of Funding
The World Trade Organisation (WTO) is inviting young economists around the world to submit papers for the 2019 WTO Essay Award. This award seeks to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade co-operation and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community.
The award ceremony will take place in September 2019 in Bern, Switzerland.
The winner will receive a cash prize of CHF 5,000. Where a paper is co-authored, the prize will be equally divided among the authors. The winning paper will be officially announced at the annual meeting of the European Trade Study Group (ETSG), which is the largest conference specializing in international trade. The winning author(s) will be given funding to attend the meeting.
The paper must address issues related to trade policy and international trade co-operation. Entrants must hold, or are engaged in the completion of, a PhD degree. If they are above 30 years old, they cannot be more than 2 years past a PhD defence. The essay cannot exceed 15,000 words.
Submission of essays is to be done via email by 31 May 2019.
