UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is inviting nominations for the 2018 Nansen Refugee Award, which is an annual award recognizing individuals, groups or organizations with outstanding dedication and service to the displacement cause. The Nansen Refugee Award aims to showcase the values of perseverance and conviction in the face of adversity.

Nominees should be heroes making a difference to the lives of families forced to flee their homes, or people/organizations which deserve recognition for selflessly devoting their time to the displacement cause.

The 2018 winner of the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award, as well as 5 runners-up will be awarded and recognized. Runners-up will be selected from different geographical locations around the world.

Nominees can be individuals, groups or organizations, and the nominees should have spent an extraordinary amount of time and effort to help the forcibly displaced. Their work would have gone beyond the call of duty and outside of normal activities, and should have displayed courage, at times in the face of personal risk.

The nominee’s work should have a direct positive impact on the lives of forcibly displaced or stateless people, and the nature of the work is related to a major displacement issue or situation. The nominee’s work should raise awareness for displaced people and reflect the values of UNHCR.

Former and current NRC staff or UNHCR staff, including United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) working for UNHCR offices, are ineligible.

Nominations are to be submitted online by 8 February 2018.
