The Yidan Prize for 2018 is soliciting nominations for 2 awards: Yidan Prize for Education Research and Yidan Prize for Education Development. The Yidan Prize for Education Research recognizes outstanding research that contributes in significant ways to education, whilst the Yidan Prize for Education Development recognizes innovation ideas that tackle important challenges in the field of education. The Prize serves to recognize and support individuals for their most future-oriented innovation that creates sustainable impacts on the education system of today and tomorrow.

The presentation ceremony for the Yidan Prize will be held in Hong Kong in December 2018.


Each Yidan Prize Laureate (1 from each category) will receive a certificate, a gold medal and HK$30 million (around US$3.9 million) worth of awards, which include a cash prize of HK$15 million (around US$1.9 million) and a project fund of HK$15 million.


Nominations are to be submitted by government bodies, non-government organizations and professional associations and individual thought leaders. Self-nomination is allowed in exceptional cases. Nominees could be either an individual or a working team of up to 3 people, and nominees could be teachers, researchers, academics, policy makers, advocates, etc.

Nominations will be judged in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Sustainable
  • Future-oriented
  • Innovative and
  • Transformative


Nominations are to be done online by 31 March 2018.
