Type of Funding
The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is offering Full Mastsers and PhD degree scholarships in agriculture, forestry and related fields to students from countries which are members of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) for AY 2019-2020. Studies must be made at any 1 of the following universities or at a university that has institutional arrangements with SEARCA: Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Indonesia; Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia; Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia; Kasetsart University (KU), Thailand; and University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Philippines.
Eligible field of study is agriculture and related sciences, including the following clusters:
- Agricultural/Biological sciences
- Social Sciences
- Economics and Agribusiness
- Forestry and Fisheries
- Environmental Sciences
- Agro-industrial Technology and Engineering
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) is a regional intergovernmental organization established among governments of Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture in the region.
In addition to tuition fees, scholars will receive a stipend for food, lodging and incidental expenses; international and domestic travel allowances; thesis/dissertation support; book and supplies allowance; and health insurance.
The SEARCA Graduate Scholarship is for nationals of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam who are regular employees of academic, research or government institutions and who are not more than 35 years old for Masters studies and not more than 40 for PhD studies.
The applicant’s topic of research for thesis/dissertation must be in line with any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts, namely: Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Competitiveness (see the Official Website for specific guidelines on eligible thesis/dissertation topics). Priority research topics must fall within the Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development (ISARD) strategic thrusts on social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and cross-cutting concerns.
Applicants are to obtain the application form online and submit the completed form together with other original application requirements to any of the following ministries of their respective countries: Education; Agriculture; Forestry; Fisheries; and Rural Development. Applicants have to check with their respective Ministries the deadlines that are set by the Ministries for accepting applications. These Ministries will then screen and endorse applications to SEARCA by 31 July 2018.
