Type of Funding
The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) Scholarship Award sponsors outstanding young students from developing countries who wants to pursue a Master’s degree in a development-related discipline at an accredited University around the world for AY 2018-2019.
The scholarship covers tuition fees, including any supplementary examination fees, which will be paid by OFID directly to the academic institution. The award also provides for health insurance, which will be paid in accordance with the institution’s own standard medical scheme. A monthly allowance will be given to cover living expenses, books and accommodation.
Prior to the start of his/her first year studies, the student will be paid a relocation grant. OFID will also pay for travel costs from the nearest airport to the student’s place of residence, to the nearest airport to the chosen place of study. Upon completion of the studies, the student will be paid the cost of one-way air ticket to his/her home country.
Applicants must be nationals of developing countries who are between the ages of 23 to 32; however, nationals of OFID Member Countries (Algeria, Ecuador, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela) are ineligible. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 rating system or equivalent, who are matriculated at an accredited university for the academic year commencing August/September 2018. They have to be full-time students for the duration of the Masters Degree. They must have obtained or be on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
The subject of study must be a development-related discipline, such as: Economics of Development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), Environment (desertification), or other related Science and Technology fields.
