Description

The Hertie School of Governance is offering scholarships for those who wish to undertake the Master of Public Policy (MPP), the Master of International Affairs (MIA) and the Executive Master of Public Administration (Executive MPA) in AY 2019/2020.

The scholarships available for students applying to the MPP and MIA are:

  • Future of Europe Scholarship
  • Transatlantic Leadership Scholarship
  • New Perspectives Scholarship
  • Hertie School Law Scholarship
  • Sustainability and Energy Policy Scholarship
  • International Security Policy Scholarship (only for MIA)
  • DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (only for MPP)
  • Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil

The scholarships available for students applying to the Executive MPA are:

  • Central and Eastern European (CEE) Scholarship
  • CommIO Scholarship
  • Public Service Leaders Scholarship
  • Social Entrepreneurship and Non-Profit Management Scholarship
  • Women in Leadership Scholarship and
  • Parliamentary Scholarship
  • República Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil

Benefits

  • Hertie School Fellowship: In addition to the 25% tuition waiver offered to stipend holders of the German Begabtenörderungswerke within Hertie’s financial aid programme, up to 5 full tuition waivers will be awarded, each award being worth €32,500.
  • Future of Europe Scholarship: Up to 2 full scholarships, each worth €32,500.
  • Transatlantic Leadership Scholarship: Up to 2 full scholarships, each worth €32,500.
  • New Perspectives Scholarship: Up to 2 full scholarships, each worth €32,500.
  • Hertie School Law Scholarship: 2 full tuition waivers, each worth €32,500. In addition, law fellows will be matched with a mentor from a German ministry who will be available for questions and career advice.
  • Sustainability and Energy Policy Scholarship: Up to 2 full scholarships, each worth €32,500.
  • International Security Policy Scholarship (only for MIA): Up to 2 full scholarships, each worth €32,500.
  • DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (only for MPP): Scholars receive a full scholarship, including a tuition waiver.
  • Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil: Scholars receive a tuition waiver covering at least 50% of tuition fees

Executive MPA Scholarships cover 50% of the tuition fees, with the exception of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) Scholarship, which covers 100% of the tuition fees.

Eligibility

  • Hertie School Fellowship: Applicants must be stipend holders of 1 of the German Begabtenförderungswerke (sponsorship organisations) who wish to pursue a degree in public policy or international affairs.
  • Future of Europe Scholarship: Applicants of all nationalities, with a demonstrated interest in European cooperation, either academically or professionally, who wish to pursue a degree in public policy or international affairs.
  • Transatlantic Leadership Scholarship: Applicants of all nationalities, with a demonstrated interest in transatlantic cooperation, either academically or professionally, who wish to pursue a degree in public policy or international affairs.
  • New Perspectives Scholarship: Applicants of all nationalities, who are students of science, engineering and humanities who wish to join the Hertie School for a degree in public policy or international affairs.
  • Hertie School Law Scholarship: Law graduates who wish to combine their legal knowledge with a degree in public policy or international affairs to be prepared for the complex challenges facing tomorrow’s leaders in public administration.
  • Sustainability and Energy Policy Scholarship: Applicants of all nationalities, who are interested in global sustainability, renewable energy, and the transformation of energy systems and who wish to deepen their knowledge in this field by examining governance structures, policies, markets, technology and new ideas to achieve the material and social conditions of long-term and universal human well-being.
  • International Security Policy Scholarship: Applicants of all nationalities, who are passionate about international security and wish to pursue a career in this field.
  • DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme: Applicants who are future leaders from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Central Asia, South-East Asia, and countries in the Middle East and from Ukraine (see the Official website for eligible countries) who strive to promote democracy and social justice. They must have completed an undergraduate degree (BA) or its international equivalent and the last completed degree cannot be more than 6 years old.
  • Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil: Applicants with at least 2 years of work experience in the Brazilian public sector who primarily work in human resources or manage teams. These scholars have to commit to serving the public in Brazil after graduating from the Hertie School.
  • Central and Eastern European (CEE) Scholarship: Applicants should be professionals from all sectors from central and eastern European countries (including the Western Balkans) as well as from NISPAcee member states.
  • CommIO Scholarship: Only German professionals working for international organisations or European institutions who are registered with CommIO can apply.
  • Public Service Leaders Scholarship: Professionals from the Public Sector (including national and state administrations, international organisations and European institutions), who bring leadership experience or proven leadership qualities.
  • Social Entrepreneurship and Non-Profit Management Scholarship: Eligible applicants are social entrepreneurs, as well as managers in the non-profit sector, with leadership experience or proven leadership qualities.
  • Women in Leadership Scholarship: Only female professionals, from all sectors, who bring leadership experience or proven leadership qualities can apply.
  • Parliamentary Scholarship: Applicants must be parliamentary group staff members, as well as the heads of office of and advisors to elected members of parliaments.
  • República Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil: Students passionate about fostering excellence in the Brazilian public sector.

Application

  • Hertie School Fellowship, Hertie School Law Scholarship: Applications are to be done online for the MPP and MIA programmes by 1 February 2019 (priority deadline) or by 1 May 2019 (final deadline) and scholarship applicants do not need to submit a separate application.
  • Future of Europe Scholarship, Transatlantic Leadership Scholarship, New Perspectives Scholarship: Applicants have to submit their applications and motivation statements before 1 February 2019.
  • Sustainability and Energy Policy Scholarship, International Security Policy Scholarship: Applicants have to submit their applications and letters of motivation before 1 April 2019.
  • DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme: Applications are to be done online by 31 July 2019.

Scholarship applications for the Executive MPA programme are to be done online by 15 March 2019.
