The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is inviting nominations for the 2019 Land for Life Award, which recognizes the excellence and innovation of the work of people around the world who contributed towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: “Life on Land”.

This is a biennial award. This year, the Land for Life China Award will also be held and 1 winner will be chosen from China.

Winners will not be given a cash prize; rather, they will be awarded with an individually tailored support package from the UNCCD secretariat to highlight each winner’s success story including:

  • Networking with interested organizations
  • Showcasing the award-winning sustainable land management (SLM) initiative at national and international events
  • The winner acting as a land degradation neutrality (LDN) “spokesperson” in a high-level policy making atmosphere

Nominees can be individuals, groups, institutions or businesses whose work and initiatives have made a significant contribution towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: “Life on Land”, and in particular Target 15.3 land degradation neutrality (LDN).

The nominator must describe candidate’s work in the nomination form in 300 words and detail the rationale for the recommendation.

Nominations are to be sent via email by 15 March 2019.
