Prospective and current undergraduate students studying for a Bachelors degree at Edith Cowan University (ECU) may apply for the Humanitarian Scholarship to assist them with their studies if they are either first generation descendants of a refugee or are refugees themselves.
Applicants must be currently enrolled or intending to enrol in Semester One, AY 2019, in an undergraduate Bachelors degree course at Edith Cowan University.
The scholarship is a one-off payment of $3,000.
Applicants may be Australian citizens or are on an Australian permanent humanitarian or resident pass. They may also be international students who have applied for, and have received an offer or a conditional offer to commence studies at ECU in Semester 1, 2019; or who have enrolled or are enrolling into ‘on campus’ units (i.e. not for online study) at ECU in any course leading to the award of a Bachelors degree.
Applicants have to be refugees or first generation descendants of refugees, who experienced forced migration and may have entered Australia in a number of ways including:
- Off-shore approved refugee or humanitarian entrant;
- Onshore, community based asylum seeker or refugee;
- Temporary protection visa holder; or
- Family reunion.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial hardship and be willing to write a statement describing how they would use the scholarship at the end of the academic year. Those who have another major scholarship worth $1500 or more per semester, are ineligible.
Applications are to be done online by 1 April 2019.
