Goethe University is offering for a period of 5 years from 2016 to 2020, 20 Goethe Goes Global Master Scholarships per year for various MSc and MA courses with a special emphasis on research. Those interested in undertaking Masters degree programmes deeply embedded in Goethe University’s strongest research units like the Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centers, LOEWE Research Centers and Helmholtz Center, in AY 2019/2020 can now apply for these scholarships.
The scholarships are only available for students applying to start in the winter term.
The scholarship award provides for a monthly stipend of €1,000 for the standard period of study in a Masters programme at Goethe University, which is usually 2 years. Scholars will receive excellent academic supervision by professors and academic staff who work in the university’s most distinguished research units. Scholars get the option to write their Masters thesis and other seminar papers or do an internship in their respective research units.
They will also receive the support and orientation of an experienced Masters student buddies during their studies and gain access to seminars on professional skills at Goethe University’s Graduate Academy GRADE, which is normally open only to PhD students and postdocs.

Both German and foreign students are eligible for the scholarships, provided they have completed at least two-thirds of their Bachelors degree (or equivalent or higher degree) at a university outside of Germany and meet the other admission requirements. Those with a degree obtained from a German university which is located abroad (e.g. the German Jordanian University) are eligible to apply, provided that two-thirds of their credit points were obtained abroad. Preference will be given to candidates who are not enrolled in another German university.
Applicants must have an excellent degree from a university outside of Germany and a keen interest in research to be eligible. They should hold an excellent or above-average Bachelors degree (or equivalent) from a university outside Germany. Goethe University is interested in candidates who are considering a PhD in the long run.
Candidates should be people who desire a platform to exchange ideas with other international researchers about the topics they are passionate about. Applicants looking for hands-on experience in research under the supervision of excellent professors in a renowned university should also apply.
The scholarship deadline is course-dependent, being the same date as the application deadline of the Masters programme the candidate is applying for (see the Official Website for deadlines of the Masters degree programmes for Winter 2019 start). For instance, the deadline for Masters in International Economics and Economics Policy is 15 May 2019, that for Masters in International Studies, Peace & Conflict Research is 31 May 2019, that of Masters in Political Science is 31 May 2019, that of Masters in Science and Technology Studies: Economies, Governance, Life is 15 June 2019, and that for Masters in Environmental Science is 15 July 2019.
