Schneider Electric is inviting business and engineering students around the world to take part in Go Green in the City 2018, a student competition for sustainable energy solutions. University students are asked to form a team of 2 and submit innovative solutions to real-world business challenges. They can solve 1 of the 4 case challenges within energy management or submit their original idea for efficient energy management in a city environment:

  • Sustainability & Inclusivity
  • Digital Economy
  • Smart Manufacturing & Supply Chain
  • Cyber Security, or
  • No boundaries

After registering for the competition, participants can take online quizzes to gain unique insights that will help them develop their idea and compete in 1 of the Awards, known as the Go Green Champs Award. They can take part in the Social Media Award by sharing the news about the Go Green in the City 2018 and encouraging them to support their teams. Besides these 2 extra awards, there is also a Women in Business Award, which will go to an outstanding all-female team.

The top 10 finalist teams will be sponsored on a trip to the grand finals in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in November 2018. At this grand finale, the 10 finalist teams will have to present the case challenge solutions for intelligent energy management that they have worked on with their mentors.

The winning team will win the opportunity of travelling to another 2 countries (after the final event) in which Schneider Electric has the available resources. The team will visit Schneider Electric’s offices, network with employees and interact with high level management. The 2 winning team members will be given a job offer within Schneider Electric, in accordance with the availability of open positions. The 2 winning members can accept or reject Schneider Electric’s proposal.

Schneider Electric and/or its affiliates will evaluate further the industrialization of the winning concept and the potential to commercialize the solution. But this does not mean that Schneider will guarantee the industrialization or commercialization of the concept or that they would recruit any entrant.

All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by Schneider Electric. All regional semi-finalists will also be invited for an interview for an internship opportunity with Schneider Electric.

The Go Green Champs Award will be given to 3 teams with the highest total score for the online quizzes. They also could win a 30-minute Skype session with 1 of the previous years’ winners to gain valuable insight into how they succeeded in the competition.

Three teams with the highest number of recommendations collected on the Public Team page will win the Social Media Award, which is a 30-minute Skype session with 1 of the previous years’ winners to gain valuable insight into how they succeeded in the competition.

The most outstanding all-female team among global semi-finalists will be selected as the winner of the Women in Business Award, who will automatically be selected as 1 of the 10 global finalists, with the additional opportunity to be guided and coached by 1 of Schneider’s female business leaders to help the team evolve their case solution. Each team member will also receive a cash prize of US$500.

Applicants have to be Business or Engineering students pursuing their Bachelors (at least 2nd year), Masters or MBA degree. They have to form a team of 2 members, 1 of which at least, must be a female; entries by individuals who are not part of a team will not be accepted. Applicants can be from anywhere in the world.

Both of the team members must study in the same country for the duration of the competition. They are not, however, required to be from the same university, nor are they required to study the same subject or be in the same year. Contestants need not be permanent residents or citizens of the country where they are studying. For example, students who are studying abroad can compete in their host country as long as they are studying there for the whole duration of the competition. English proficiency is required.

Case solutions have to be submitted online by 1 June 2018.
