Type of Funding
The Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is inviting students who wish to apply for the Bachelor of Engineering degree under the Global Scientists and Engineers Program (GSEP) commencing April 2020, to apply for scholarships by the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) or the Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students awarded by JASSO.
GSEP is an international Bachelor of Engineering course taught in English. GSEP is a transdisciplinary degree program not limited to any specific science or engineering field. Students will undertake science, engineering and management courses. Many of the core courses will be team taught in project-based learning or hands-on formats covering various fields of science and engineering.
Under the MEXT scholarship, students will be exempted from paying fees for application, admission, and tuition. The MEXT scholarship provides a monthly stipend of JPY 120,000. Scholars will also be given one roundtrip airplane ticket.
Under the JASSO scholarship, students will be paid a monthly stipend of JPY 48,000, for 1 year. Scholars will have to pay the application, admission, and tuition fees.
MEXT Scholarship: Applicants must be residing outside of Japan and are nationals of countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan. Applicants must have been born on or after 2 April 1995. They must have either have completed 12 years of regular school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to a Japanese high school.
Successful applicants should arrive in Japan between 1 and 7 April 2020.
JASSO Scholarship: Applicants cannot be residing in Japan. Those who have been awarded this scholarship cannot apply to receive other scholarships at the same time.
Applications for the GSEP must be submitted by registered mail or courier service, or other similar service, by 5 September 2019.
