Type of Funding
University College London (UCL) is making available the Access Opportunity Scholarship for AY 2019/20 to asylum seekers who because of their immigration status, are not able to secure student loans for their higher education. Applicants should be holding an offer of a place on a UCL undergraduate programme. Studies can be in any field offered by UCL.
The scholarship provides for full tuition fees and a living allowance of £11,000 per year for the duration of the Bachelors degree programme at UCL.
Annual renewal of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Applicants must be asylum seekers, children of asylum seekers or unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who are seeking asylum in the UK; or forced migrants who are based in the UK and have been granted a temporary form of leave as the result of an asylum application or human rights application (e.g. limited leave to remain, discretionary leave to remain, humanitarian protection). They must also be unable to access student finance (tuition fee or maintenance loan) because of immigration status.
Only those holding an offer of a place on a UCL undergraduate programme are eligible. They should attend or have attended, a school, college, community or voluntary group in the UK that is able to provide a reference.
Both applicant’s financial situation and academic merit will be taken into consideration.
Application forms are to be sent via email by 5 July 2019.
